The cloud of uncertainty for Catalonia continues to hover above the Ibex. The market faces this day with its sights set on the Catalan territory after the day of strikes and protests, which had little follow-up. This Thursday, in the Supreme Court, the President of the Parliament of Catalonia Carme Forcadell and five former members of the House of Representatives will testify before the magistrate for the crimes of rebellion, sedition and embezzlement for the facts related to the unilateral declaration of independence (DUI ).
This Thursday will also mark the publication of the European Commission of its new economic forecasts for Spain and the European Union and will do so amid the uncertainty created by the secessionist challenge in Catalonia, which already caused the Spanish Government to reduce its estimate by three tenths of GDP growth for 2018. In May, the Community Executive raised its calculations on the increase of the Spanish economy to 2.8% for 2017 and 2.4% for 2018, thanks to the "strong activity" registered during the first quarter of this year.
The market will be held back by the festivity in Madrid for the celebration of the Almudena and the lack of reference of results of Spanish companies. However, outside of Spain, on Thursday, Walt Disney or News Corp. will give their quarterly accounts. German, Adidas, Commerzbank, Siemens and Deutsche Telekom, among others, will also present their accounts.
